Franklin Templeton welcomes head of retail
Manuel Damianakis is joining Franklin Templeton as head of retail, reporting to Matthew Harrison. Damianakis moves across from AMP Capital in a head of retail business role.

AMP Capital creates new investment team
A new global direct investments team for large institutional investors has been created at AMP Capital, with two heads appointed: Dylan Foo and Patsy Sandys.

BMO Global AM appoints new CEO
Kristi Mitchem is replacing Richard Wilson as the CEO at BMO Global Asset Management, moving from Wells Fargo Asset Management as CEO.

Blue Sky appoints CRO
Andrew Werro is Blue Sky Alternative Investments’ new chief risk officer, in a newly-created role. Werro moves across from Macquarie.

State Super appoints CIO, deputy CIO
Gary Gabriel is the new chief investment officer at State Super, while Charles Wu is the new deputy chief investment officer and general manager of defined contribution. Gabriel replaces Richard Hedley, moving into the company from HESTA. Wu has been with State Super since 2015, and was promoted to his new role from head of risk allocation and risk.

Mercer’s parent welcomes new CEO
Martine Ferland is the new chief executive and president of Marsh & McLennan Companies, Mercer’s parent company, moving from Europe as president of Europe and Pacific, and co-president of global health. Julio A. Portalatin is outgoing from the role.

Finance veterans on Australia Day honours list
The 2019 Australia Day Honours List celebrates the contributions of Australians, with this year’s list containing some finance sector stalwarts.

  • David Hoare - former Principal Global Investors chair - Companion (AC) in the General Division in the Order of Australia for services to finance, business, telecommunications, education sectors, and health and cultural organisations

  • Jillian Broadbent - Macquarie director and Swiss Re Australia chair - Companion in the General Division for services to corporate, financial, clean energy and cultural organisations

  • Richard Haddock - Australian Catholic Superannuation and Retirement Fund chair, Officer in the General Division (AO) - distinguished service to the community, Catholic church, and financial services

  • Dr Bronwyn King - founder and chief executive of Tobacco Free Portfolios - Officer in the General Division, for distinguished service to community health

  • Karl Morris - executive chair of Ord Minnett and QSuper chair - distinguished services to the financial and stockbroking sectors, and the community

  • Jillian Segal - former ASIC deputy chair - Officer in the General Division

  • Michael Ullmer - NAB deputy CEO - Officer in the General Division, distinguished service to financial services, and performing and visual arts

  • Geoff Brunsdon - MetLife Australia and APN Funds Management chair - Member in the General Division the Order of Australia (AM)

  • Louise Davidson - Australian Council of Superannuation Investors (ACSI) CEO - Member in the General Division the Order of Australia - services to the superannuation and funds management sector, and breast cancer research

  • John McMurtrie - Link Group managing director - Member in the General Division, recognised for philanthropy

  • Peeyush Gupta - former ipac Securities CEO and co-founder - awarded for service to business and the community

  • Maria Wilton - former Franklin Templeton Investments Australia MD - Member in the General Division for contribution to business and finance sectors and service to the community

  • John Lonsdale - APRA deputy chair - Public Service Medal for his work in the stability, efficiency and competitiveness of the finance sector in Australia
