AustralianSuper appoints new board member, executives
Claire Keating is AustralianSuper’s newest board director. Keating is a PricewaterhouseCoopers partner, joining at the start of 2020. Keating has over two decades’ experience in the finance industry.
Paul Schroder is the new chief risk officer, moving from a role as group executive of strategy brand and reputation. Sarah Burley, head of group strategy, will replace Schroder as a permanent replacement is found. Peter Curtis is the new group executive of finance and operations. Both roles have been newly created.
BNP Paribas appoints new Australian and New Zealand GM
Karine Delvallee is the new territory head of Australia and New Zealand and the general manager of the Australian branch. Delvallee has been with the company for over 25 years, most recently as the chief risk officer for Asia Pacific.
Local Government Super welcomes first independent chair, director
After its constitution was amended in June, Local Government Super has appointed its first independent chairperson, Kyle Loades. Loades is a professor at the University of Newcastle. Sandi Orleow is a newly-appointed independent director on the board. Bruce Miller is the outgoing chair and will step into the deputy chair role.
FSC restructure sees additions to policy team
The Financial Services Council (FSC) is undertaking a restructure to ‘strengthen operational efficiencies’, with some additions to the policy team made. The restructure does not include the board.
The policy team now consists of Bianca Richardson (senior policy manager of investments, global markets and superannuation); Michael Potter (senior policy manager of economics and tax); Nick Kirwan (policy manager of life insurance); Jane Macnamara (senior policy manager for superannuation and retirement outcomes); Zach Castles (policy manager for advice); and Vincent So (policy manager of investments and global markets).
AFMA appoints new chair
Robert Bedwell is the new chairperson at the Australian Financial Markets Association (AFMA), succeeding John Knox who leaves after three years as chair. Knox resigned as CEO of Credit Suisse Australia earlier in 2019. Bedwell is the chief executive of Australia and New Zealand at JP Morgan. Andrew Hinchliff is the new deputy chair, holding a position as group executive of Institutional Banking and Market at Commonwealth Bank.
Mercer welcomes relationship manager
Joanne Caruana is joining Mercer as a senior relationship manager in the corporate superannuation team, moving across from HESTA.
Netwealth appoints distribution head
Damian Holland is to head the distribution team, moving from MLC. Nick Mitchell left the role in July.
legalsuper appoints interim investment head
Paul Kessell is the new interim chief investment officer at legalsuper, moving from Kinetic Super, replacing Edward Smith.
APRA welcomes risk specialist
Angela Thurstans is the new risk specialist of governance at the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA). Thurstans moves across from a long-time role at Cbus as executive manager of governance and risk.
NGS Super appoints liquid assets manager
Melinda He is the new manager of liquid assets in the investment team at NGS Super. He moves across from Colonial First State where she was a research and investment specialist.

Departures
Suncorp banking and wealth CEO resigns
David Carter is stepping down as the chief executive of banking and wealth at Suncorp, leaving in early 2020 to lead the Royal Automobile Club of Queensland (RACQ). Carter has been with Suncorp since 2006.
ACSA board loses two directors
Marian Azer and Peter Snodgrass are both leaving the Australian Custodial Services Association (ACSA) board. Azer has a new role at RBC, while Snodgrass is retiring from full-time work. Both leave the board at the end of 2019.
