HSBC slashes 35,000 jobs globally

HSBC has announced a decision to cut 35,000 jobs as part of a complete restructure, on the back of a 33 per cent drop in profits in 2019. The loss of 35,000 employees over the coming three years leaves 200,000 staff globally. In other structural changes, the bank will cut US$100bn in assets, shrink its investment bank, and shutter a third of its US branches. A renewed focus is on Asia and the Middle East.
