Westpac appoints board member and operations chief
Chris Lynch has been appointed to the Westpac board. Lynch was most recently with Rio Tinto in London, leaving the position in 2018, while still holding senior positions within BHP Billiton and KAAL Australia. Lynch, a fellow of CPA Australia, is also on the audit and risk committees at Westpac.
Scott Collary is the new chief operations officer at Westpac, overseeing the new group operating offices. Collary is stepping from a role as chief of information and operations for BMO Financial Group based in Canada. Collary replaces Gary Thursby who is leaving the firm after 13 years.
AMP appoints two new heads of risk and acting chief
Justine Gorman is the new head of risk, superannuation, retirement and platforms at AMP, joining the role from National Australia Bank (NAB). Gorman is a chartered financial analyst, joining AMP to strengthen governance.
Michael Jones is the new head of risk and control, advice, at the company, after four years at Synchron. Synchron has not filled the vacancy left by Jones but has promoted both heads of compliance so they report directly to the board.
AMP Australia has hired AMP New Zealand’s chief executive Blair Vernon as acting chief executive after Alex Wade left. A search has been commenced to find Wade’s replacement. Vernon has been with AMP for over a decade.
Zurich integrates with OnePath, changes leadership
In a series of leadership appointments as Zurich integrates with OnePath, changes have been made to the operations team.
Tina Beilby, chief underwriting officer, moves into the newly-created role - head of operations, integration
Peter Tilocca, chief underwriter at OnePath, is now the chief underwriting officer for the group
Joanne Faglioni moves into the newly-created role of chief claims officer
Sheriff Hamza is now the head of retail claims
MLC Wealth appoints chief risk officer
David Clarke will be MLC Wealth’s new chief risk officer as of October, after moving from QIC in a similar role for seven years. Clarke replaces Mark Baxter who left the company in April. At QIC, general counsel Michelle Thomsen will be interim chief risk officer while a replacement is found.
