ASIC appoints new heads

The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) has promoted Warren Day to the newly-created role of chief operating officer, from the executive director of assessment and intelligence. Zack Gurdon was appointed to the newly-created role of chief risk officer, joining from NBN Australia.

Australian Unity appoints CIO, loses GM of investments

Joe Fernandes is in the newly-created role of chief investment officer at Australian Unity, moving from Colonial First State as CEO. The company has been reorganised at the investments department level, with Geraldine Barlow leaving her role of executive general manager of investments.

CommSec welcomes new GM

Ben Smoker has joined CommSec as general manager of broking and markets. Smoker moves across from Westpac as an investment director.

UBS appoints sector head for equities and retail, food

Andrew Adams is now the sector head for sell-side equities coverage at UBS, moving across from Credit Suisse. Aryan Norozi is the sector head for the retail and food and beverages coverage, an internal promotion. Minnie Tong will join the team in December, a member of the Research cadet program. Tom Allen will now also work on energy coverage in addition to his existing utilities coverage. Glyn Lawcock has covered this sector for the past two years, so now he will be able to focus on mining coverage. Joseph Wong will take on lead coverage of the fuel refiner and retail stocks.

MTAA Super and Tasplan tidy up executive line-up as merger looms

As MTAA Super and Tasplan get set to merge in 2021, the executive line-up is confirmed.

Citi welcomes new banking and wealth head, 14 new relationship managers

Gofran Chowdhury is the new head of Citi’s banking and wealth management distribution business, promoted after 10 years with the bank. Also appointed are 14 new relationship managers in the wealth management business across the last year.

Equity Trustees executive reshuffle

Harvey Kalman is starting a new role at Equity Trustees, as the global head of business development, fund services and managing director for the UK and Europe. Russell Beasley is the new executive general manager of corporate trustee services in Australia. Beasley was an internal promotion.

HUB24 welcomes CFO

Kitrina Shanahan is the new chief financial officer and joint company secretary at HUB24, moving across from Westpac. Shanahan replaces Debbie Last who was interim CFO.

Future Fund welcomes equities head

Genevieve Murray is the new head of listed equities at Future Fund, moving across from AMP Capital. Murray replaces Megan Ford, who was acting in the role from March.

Funds SA appoints portfolio manager for debt and liquid alternatives

Peter Bogdanovic is moving from a long-term role at QIC to Funds SA, taking on a role as portfolio manager for debt and liquid alternatives.

Prime Super appoints new director

Allison Harker is the latest addition to the Prime Super board, Harker also sits on the board of the NSW government’s Local Land Services.

State Street welcomes two new appointments

Mostapha Tahiri is the new head of Asia Pacific at State Street, based in Singapore, joining from BNP Paribas where he spent the last 20 years. Joanne Chen is the new head of China, based in Beijing. Chen also joins from BNP Paribas.

World Economic Forum appoints new members to board of trustees

The Board of Trustees of the World Economic Forum is the guardian of the World Economic Forum’s mission and values. The latest two to join the board are Minister Paula Ingabire and Thomas Buberi. Ingabire is Rwanda’s minister of information communication technology and innovation, while Buberi is the chief executive of AXA.

Westpac bringing 1,000 jobs home

Westpac has announced it is bringing 1,000 loan processing and call centre jobs back to Australia. The roles are currently filled in India and the Philippines. Chief executive of Westpac, Peter King, said the response rate was too slow during the pandemic when customers needed more support.

The move is designed to support local employment, limit offshore disruption risk, and improve speed and capacity. While the move is expected to boost productivity, it will add $45 million to annual costs.

Departures

AMP loses more staff

AMP Capital has lost two key staff from New Zealand - managing director and chief economist Bevan Graham and head of clients Greg McMaster. Sydney-based portfolio manager Kristen Le Mesurier has resigned to take on a new role elsewhere after eight years.
