Global ETF FlowWatch - October 2021 Highlights
/ETF net flows worldwide accumulated US$82 billion in net flows during October 2021 amid continued expansion of the stock market. Equity ETFs led with US$63 billion in net new money, followed by bond ETFs with US$15 billion in net flows. Commodity ETF products trailed behind with US$5 billion in net subscriptions. Global ETF assets rose to a record high of US$9.92 trillion as of October 2021.
In the U.S., equity ETF vehicles amassed US$42 billion in net new cash, primarily driven by Equity US – Large Cap attracting US$28 billion in net subscriptions. Bond ETFs gathered $11 billion in net flows and commodity ETFs took in US$2 billion in net new money.
ETFs in Europe garnered US$12 billion in net flows, mainly pushed by equity and bond ETFs that absorbed an aggregate of US$12 billion. On the other hand, commodity ETF products suffered net redemptions slightly under 500 million. In Asia, equity ETFs accounted for majority of the net flows with US$6 billion in net subscriptions. Bond and commodity ETF investments gained US$3 billion and US$2 billion, respectively.
ProShares Bitcoin Strategy ETF was the largest new ETF launch in October, attracting US$1.2 billion in net flows. The ETF seeks to provide capital appreciation primarily through managed exposure to bitcoin futures contracts but does not invest directly in bitcoin.
