/TWUSUPER welcomes chair
Hon. Nick Sherry is the new chair of TWUSUPER, effective 1 May 2022. Sherry left politics in 2012, with many advisory roles at large companies such as Citi, Ernst & Young, and others, while also being a fellow at the Australian Institute of Superannuation Trustees (AIST) and governor of PPI (UK). Sherry also helped build from the ground up HOSTPLUS and ClubPlus (Tas) as a founding trustee.
Sherry takes the place of the longstanding chair, David Galbally, who has chaired since 2000.
ESSSuper appoints CEO
Robbie Campo is the new chief executive at Emergency Services and State Super (ESSSuper). Campo joins from Cbus, and replaces Mark Puli who resigned to move into a role at MLC Life Insurance. Campo is an industry champion, being the former deputy chief of Industry Super Australia and heading the policy campaign for financial advice reforms.
BUSSQ welcomes new directors
Linda Vickers is one of two new directors on the board at the Building Unions Superannuation Scheme (Queensland) (BUSSQ). Vickers is the former CEO of BUSSQ, retiring after 22 years with the fund in late 2020.
Ben Young is also joining the board as an employer representative. Young owns and runs Workplace Compliance Australia and is workplace relations director at Hutchinson Builders. The board is now comprised of eight.
PIMCO appoints executive vice president, business head
Sam Watkins is the new executive vice president and business head of Australia and New Zealand at PIMCO, moving into the role from Goldman Sachs. At Goldman Sachs, Watkins was most recently the managing director and head of equity finance product, Asia Pacific.
REST appoints director
Joanne Lester has been appointed to the Retail Employees Superannuation Trust (REST) board as an employer representative nominated by the Australian Retailers Association. Lester was an alternate director for six years, and moves into the role from Wesfarmers.
Catriona Noble has left the role to take on job at Australia Post.
AIST welcomes GM membership and partnerships
Trish Curry is the new general manager of memberships and partnerships at the Australian Institute of Superannuation Trustees (AIST). Curry is the former regional head of AustralianSuper’s United Kingdom organisation.
UBS appoints real estate head
John Mowat is the new UBS Asset Management head of real estate for the Asia Pacific region, promoted from the Australian head of real estate. Mowat has worked at UBS AM since 2010.
abrdn appointments investment director
Rafiq Choudhury is now the investment director at abrdn, a role that is part of the multi-asset team in Australia. Choudhury moves into the role from State Street as a portfolio manager, where he has worked for nearly two decades.
