Maple-Brown Abbott closes Australian equities fund
Sydney boutique Maple-Brown Abbott is shuttering its Australian Geared Equity Fund due to underperformance. The fund has existed since 2002, and despite some areas of good performance, has consistently underperformed. At just $13 million, the fund was no longer viable and is being closed.

BlackRock considering cryptocurrency market with fund filings
BlackRock has filed twice with the Securities and Exchange Commission in the United States to allow potential trades in bitcoin derivatives. The BlackRock Global Allocation Fund and BlackRock Funds V are the funds of choice, as they may use instruments referred to as derivatives - financial instruments that derive their value from one or more securities, commodities, currencies (like bitcoin), interest rates, credit events or indices.
Hyperion launches active ETF
A new exchange-traded fund (ETF) is being launched by Hyperion, the Hyperion Global Growth Fund (HYGG), in late March 2021. The ETF offers access to the unlisted vehicle in the Hyperion Global Growth Companie Strategy, which invests between 80 and 100 per cent in global equities. The strategy will be led by Mark Arnold and Jason Orthman.
Raiz launches custom portfolio option
Raiz investors can now create a custom portfolio choosing the target weighting for up to 14 ETFs and bitcoin. The new portfolio option will cost $4.50 per month for accounts with less than $20,000 or 0.275 for balances over $20,000.
